The Most Expensive Paintings Sold in 2011

Chinese artists dominate?  Not really. But an article by Business Insider's article titled:

"Chinese Artists Dominate List Of 10 Most Expensive Paintings Sold Last Year"

(Read more and see the full list here: http://www.businessinsider.com/10-most-expensive-paintings-sold-last-year-2012-1)

... caught my attention.

I scrolled through the story-in-pictures quickly and decided I was really only excited about Egon Schiele (yay!) making the list and acknowledged Gustav Klimt (beh... because everyone else also fell in love with "The Kiss") with lukewarm approval, only in comparison to the other stuff that was sold for tonnes of money.

A Yuan dynasty (1271–1368, period of the Mongol takeover of the majority of Euro-Asian continents) old master painting also made the list, I presume rightfully so due to value of a genuine historical antique and the artist Wang Meng 王蒙 being a renown scholar.

For the sake of casual education, here are two turn-of-the-century (19th-20th CE) Chinese artists you need to know.  Memorize their names well if you haven't already, for use in business conversations to show off your knowledge of Chinese culture.  Mentioning qi-gong, Sun Tzu and Confucius just won't cut it anymore.

Qi Baishi 齐白石 or 齊白石

#1 Qi Baishi's Eagle Standing on Pine Tree with Four-character Couplet in Seal Script sold for $57.2 million

Zhang Daqian 张大千 or 張大千

Read up on them and bask in their artistic talent.  It will rub off to give you advantage in demeanor in interaction with Chinese dignitaries. I promise.
